An Artificial Christmas Wreath Can Look Just As Nice As A Fresh Wreath

Maybe, as my daughter tells me, I'm finally moving into the 21st century. Or maybe I'm just getting old and lazy. Whatever the reason, like my Christmas tree I now own an artificial Christmas wreath.

During the Christmas season, you can buy live Christmas trees and fresh Christmas wreaths almost anywhere. The Boy Scouts have tree sales in parking lots and private retailers open their farms for selling live greens. I love the smells of fresh greens. However, in my household, convenience wins out over the fresh smells.

I also recently found out that there are sprays you can put on an artificial Christmas wreath now. Don't bother. The smell is bad. At least the ones I've tried are. If you find one that actually smells like fresh pine then please let me know. Until then, I'll do without the scent.

I learned many years ago that having live Christmas trees and wreaths make a huge mess and aren't as wonderful as they are thought to be. I've since purchased an artificial Christmas tree and an artificial Christmas wreath. To be quite honest, I am very content with having both of them.

The artificial Christmas wreath has allowed me to be much more creative with my Christmas decorations. I used to only be able to put a few decorations on it because of its flimsy and delicate greens. With an artificial Christmas wreath, I can wrap lights around it as well as bows and anything else I happen to desire. I can change the décor of it each and every year and never have to worry about needles falling off or it turning brown. I simply pack it away New Year's Day and know that it is safe for the entire year.

It saves me money and time each year as well. Not that live greens are outrageously expensive, but having an artificial Christmas wreath does save me several dollar each season and the hassle of shopping around for one. That's extra time and money I can put into getting presents and baking cookies.

At first, my husband balked at the idea of an artificial Christmas wreath. He missed the smells of the fresh greens but had grown tired of picking needles off of the floors and out of the carpets. He soon agreed that an artificial Christmas wreath was definitely a wise decision, though it pouted about it for the first season.

I have wrapped lights around my artificial Christmas wreath many times and it always stays sturdy. I've hung that same artificial Christmas wreath above our fireplace where we hadn't dared to hang a fresh wreath. The concern had always been that the heat would not allow them to stay fresh for too long. With an artificial Christmas wreath, there is no worrying. Our living room can now look just as festive as any other room in our house. My husband even agreed that the artificial Christmas wreath looks very good hanging above the fireplace with the mantel decorated with lights and decorations.

The following year, he went with me to purchase another artificial Christmas wreath. We wanted another one for a different room in the house. I guess that he finally understood the logic behind getting away from fresh greens. Who says men are completely illogical? He even helped me decorate the new artificial Christmas wreath when we got home. And that's a true Christmas miracle.

Who knows, maybe next year he'll even help me wrap the kids presents.

Some may prefer the convenience of an artificial Christmas wreath. But to me, Christmas just isn't Christmas without a fresh balsam Christmas wreath. Actually, we get several every year.
